Political Factoid
Some retail employers are starting
to pay employees only for the
time spent waiting on customers.
- It started with part time work and split shifts
(e.g., 6am-8am and 11am-1pm at the fast food counter).
- No complete shifts, no overtime, no benefits.
- Work only during busy days to work only when
called in by the supervisor.
- Expected to be "on call" and able to respond
within 15 minutes.
- Paid only for the equivalent of "billable hours."
- i.e., no pay during slack hours of slow
customer traffic
