Political Factoid
- Insider industry analysts
nearly always say the
government goes too far
when imposing regulations
to protect consumers.
- But when industry associations
try to take the initiative*
they invariably come up
short in true effectiveness.
Example:
The cell phone industry will
include cell phone "killswitches"
to protect against theft,
but it will require the consumer
to explicitly to request "opt in."
"That's a bit like making people
request that seat belts be
installed in their cars."
