Political Factoid

At a White House event to announce
his "My Brother's Keeper" initiative,
on Feb. 27, 2014, President Barack
Obama said:
  1. African-Americans have a one-in-two chance
of growing up without a father in the house.
  2. Black kids are nearly four times as likely as
white kids to be suspended from school.
  3. Black kids are twice as likely as white kids to
    drop out.
  4. Without a father, they are more likely to be poor.
  5. Black students are less likely to read as
    proficient in the fourth grade.
  6. When they reach high school, Black students
are far more likely to have been suspended
    or expelled.
  7. There's a higher chance Black kids will end
up in the criminal justice system.
  8. They have a far higher chance of being the
    victim of a violent crime.
  9. Fewer Black men participate in the labor
force, compared to young white men.
  10. All of this translates into higher
unemployment rates and poverty rates as
    adults.
Most white Americans believe this is true,
all because such students are Black,
(i.e., their being Black is the cause).
