Political Factoid
Detroit was devastated by
an economic hurricane
caused by such things as:
- Free enterprise replaced
by vulture market capitalism,
unchecked by regulation.
- Productivity improvements that
increased company profits but
which were not shared with the
workers.
- Limited-access highway construction
that created physical barriers, split
and reduced previously thriving
neighborhoods.
- Congressional tax policies
that led to decades of
manufacturing outsourcing, etc.
- Corporations putting CEO
salaries and bonus ahead
of funding employee
pension plans.
- A steady deterioration of
unmaintained infrastructure,
including police protection.
