When he assumed power as
Chancellor of the Third Reich
in 1933, Adolf Hitler took
over the construction programs
of the German autobahn network
of freeways.
Construction quality was
guaranteed by taking random
core samples of the concrete
and shooting the construction
supervisor on the spot if the
sample failed to meet
established strength criteria.
Maybe this kind of "deterrent" thinking is what
Jeff Sessions had in mind when he established
his zero tolerance policy at the U.S.-Mexican
border in 2018.
