Political Factoid

Government subsidies:*
Free market - Hah!

HFCS High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
might not be economically viable
as a cheap alternative for sugar
without the government corn subsidies.
Ethanol
fuel
Is not economically viable
without the numerous forms of
government subsidies and tax breaks.
Nuclear
Power
Nuclear power would not be economically
viable without the various forms
of government subsidies, including
not having to safely dispose of the
nuclear waste.
Gasoline Eliminating big oil subsidies would have
very little effect at the gas pump
(less than 1/2% at today's prices,
even if the oil companies pass the
entire amount along to the consumer.)
Gas fracking Has not been economical in the past,
and still would not be economical
if the full costs are paid without
government subsidies (including tax
benefits)

* Subsidies cause everyone (consumers, business people,
politicians, government agencies) to make incorrect decisions.
